Contact-free Pickup at HPL: Check Out Materials Safely

Select library materials and pick them up safely!

How to Request and Pick up Library Materials

To place holds on items at the library:

1. Search the library catalog to find the items you want or use our request form and let us pick for you.

2. Place a hold on the item(s)

3. After you are notified that your items are ready to be picked up, schedule a pick up time from the Downtown Library, Campfield Branch, or Albany Branch, or visit the Library on Wheels at one of the scheduled locations. If you are placing holds on multiple items, we recommend waiting until all of your holds are ready for pickup before making your appointment.

Guidelines

In order to keep everyone safe and keep this service running smoothly, we ask that you follow these guidelines:

  • Face masks must be worn at all times when picking up library materials.
  • When you arrive to pick up your materials, call the number posted to let us know you are here. Then return to your vehicle or stand on the designated spot until your materials are brought out to the table. After the library staff member has re-entered the building, you can retrieve your bag from the table.
  • Staff will not be available to talk to you at the pickup location.
  • There will be no access to the inside of the building through the Arch St. doors.
  • Questions? Call us at 860-695-6300 or email reference@hplct.org.

Precautions the Library is Taking

The Hartford Public Library is taking the following steps to ensure the safety of our customers and our staff:

  • Library books, DVDs, and other materials are quarantined for 72 hours after they are returned to the library
  • High- and low- touch surfaces are disinfected frequently.
  • Staff wear masks at all times and wash hand thoroughly and frequently.
  • Staff and patrons are reminded to keep a six-foot distance from others.
