October 1920: The Women Who Led the Way: Registering Together

Mothers and daughters, sisters, housemates: whatever the relationship, we have found numerous women who either registered on the same day (possibly they traveled together to City Hall), or at the very least, all within this voter registration period.  Perhaps this civic duty was a family value; maybe they journeyed together for moral support. Most of these pairings we found simply by matching names and addresses. Others, particularly the White twins, we found after reading the newspaper clipping and doing some genealogical research. All of the cards (women and men) are organized by the person's most recent last name. It helps to know all the possible names of the person you are looking for!
