Volunteer from anywhere!

Our online volunteer opportunities can be completed at the library, from home, or wherever you choose and you can still get volunteer hours for your service to the community.

As part of our ongoing efforts to provide engaging and relevant programs for teens/young adults, we invite you to suggest ideas for future events and activities.

Whether it's a workshop, club, competition, or special event, we want to hear what you think would be exciting and beneficial for our teen/young adult community. Your suggestions will help us tailor our offerings to better meet the interests and needs of local teens/young adults.

Please share your ideas using the form, and thank you for contributing to the vibrancy of our teen/young adult services!

Did you know the Hartford Public Library offers more than just books?

You can borrow sewing machines, cake pans, museum passes, yard games, and much more. This collection is known as our "Library of Things (LoT)." Click here to learn more about it.

We're planning to add more items and create a specific LoT for the Teen/YA sections of our branches, but we’d love to hear your suggestions!

Share your idea for a "thing" you'd like to see in our library using the form.

FAQ

Who can participate in the library's teen/YA volunteer programs?

To participate in our in-person teen/YA volunteer opportunities, you need to be either a resident of the Greater Hartford OR a student at a Hartford school, ages 13-24. For our online volunteer opportunities, the only requirement is to be a resident of Connecticut, ages 13-24.

Can I participate in more than one volunteer program?

There is no limit to the number of volunteer programs you can participate in.

I need to earn community service hours for school, can I do that at the library?

You can absolutely volunteer at the library in-person or online and put those hours toward your school's service requirements.

How do I sign up to earn community service hours?

If you haven't earned community service hours with us before, email Manuel, our Teen and Young Adult Services Librarian, at mifernandez@hplct.org to introduce yourself! You don't need to wait for a response to start completing the activities. We'd just like to have your name and email on file so we can give you the correct service hours. If you have already volunteered at the library and you're sure we have your info, feel free to start submitting virtual volunteer activities via the appropriate links. If you are interested in volunteering in person, we will contact you once you complete the form.
