Hartford Changemakers

Alleyne grew up in Hartford, graduated from Fisk University in Nashville, and returned to teach in the Hartford school system for more than 30 years. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, and was its president in Hartford in 1961. She was president of the John E. Rogers Foundation, named for a local historian of African-American history. She worked on the Hartford African American Heritage Trail Tour, highlighting the long history of Black community members in Hartford. She directed her sorority’s SAT program at Weaver High School, helping hundreds of Hartford students prepare for college entrance exams. She was president of the CT Valley Girl Scouts, a founder of a Juneteenth Committee to plan an annual celebration, and a member of the Union Baptist Church.
