Ella Little Cromwell (1918- 2006)

Politician, Civic Leader

Cromwell served as treasurer of the Connecticut Democratic State Central Committee, and represented Hartford in that committee for 38 years. She was a lifetime member of the NAACP, joining the Hartford branch in 1948. She served as director of the Government State Information Bureau for 25 years, and was an examiner for the Connecticut State Treasurer. She served as co-chair of the Northeast Neighborhood Revitalization Zone and was a community advisor to the Hartford Police Department. She was a founder of the Young Black Democratic Club, and found jobs for local residents in government positions. Queen Ella, as many called her, worked as a professional model and commentator and was active in local theatrical groups. She was a member of the Union Baptist Church.
